    Oyster Bay is an amazing hamlet and census designated place (CDP) in prestigious Nassau County in Long Island, New York. This delightful village is in the remarkable Town of Oyster Bay which contains 18 villages and 18 hamlets total.     Oyster Bay was settled by the Dutch. In 1889 the first Long Island Rail Road ( LIRR) train arrived in Oyster Bay. The area's most notable resident was Theodore Roosevelt who, at the time of making his home in Oyster Bay, would become the future 26th President of the United States. His home was in Sagamore Hill, in present day Cove Neck, a neighboring village. His home in Sagamore was know as both his residence and The Summer White House. His home is now a National Historic Site. Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park was created to honor him and gives visitors access to pristine and beautiful Ocean Bay Harbor. Oysters harvested in the area are now the only source of traditionally farmed oysters from Long Island and provide 90% of the oysters harvested in the state of New York. The hamlet is comprised of 1.6 square miles of which 1.2 is land and 0.4 is water. The children of Oyster Bay are served by the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District. Notables who spent their youth in the area include musician Billy Joel and tennis player John McEnroe.
