    Incorporated in 1846, the picturesque port village of Sag Harbor, New York, lies on the east end of Long Island, on the north side. Within Suffolk County, the village straddles both towns of East Hampton and Southampton. Sag Harbor is a community rich in history. First inhabited by the Algonquin Indians, this land would later be a backdrop in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. The harbor was most notable during that time as a whaling port. In 1803 the village became the first in the state to have a fire department.
