    Massapequa is an outstanding village and census designated place (CDP) in the scenic southern area of the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, Long Island, New York. At the time of the 2010 census, the population of Massapequa was approximately 21,685 residents. The village occupies a total area of 4.0 square miles, 3.7 being land and 0.4 water. Nearby places with “Massapequa” in their name are collectively referred to as “The Massapequas”. 

    Boasting a long, rich history, this area was originally home to the Lenape Indians, an Algonquian-speaking people who lived in coastal areas. In addition to a rich heritage, Massapequa also has wonderful schools and public services. The children in the village are served by the Massapequa School District which operates seven elementary schools, two junior highs, and two high schools. One of the old schools in the district now serves as the Nassau County Police Academy. Massapequa has warm, humid summers and cold winters, just like most of the other coastal areas of the northeastern United States. Afternoon breezes off the Atlantic Ocean help to temper the heat in summer months. In the winter, temperatures are warmer than areas further inland. The average snowfall is 28 inches.
